How to Check Storage Space on Chromebook

Even while Chrome OS is praised for being simple and user-friendly, which it is, there are instances when you don’t know where to look for the most fundamental information. For instance, checking the storage capacity on your Chromebook is not possible because there is no specification sheet or system info viewer. There are other approaches, but they all involve unnecessary detours. However, we’ve covered a number of ways in this post to check the Chromebook’s available free space as well as the remaining storage space. We have a separate article for that if you need to free up storage on your Chromebook. So with that, let’s get started.

Check Storage Space on Chromebook (2021)

To view all the ways you can check the storage space on your Chromebook, expand the table below. You can use the following native and third-party programmes to check the storage space on Chrome OS:

Using Native Files App

1. Using the Files app on a Chromebook is the simplest way to check storage capacity. When you click on the three dots menu in the top-right corner of the Files app once it has loaded, the Chromebook’s remaining storage space will be shown at the very bottom.

2. Clicking on the available space will lead you to the Settings page, where you can find out how much storage space is available overall. You can see a detailed summary of how storage is used throughout Chrome OS here. You may calculate how much storage space is available on your device by adding the In Use and Available sections. Mine, for instance, has 64GB.

Check Storage Space using Chrome URL

As an alternative, you can verify the amount of free or available storage space by opening one of the hidden Chrome URLs. In Chrome, paste chrome:/quota-internals and press enter. The amount of storage space currently available on your Chromebook is shown here in the Free disc space for the profile directory section.

Use Third-Party App to Check Storage Space

The Cog software, which is free to download, may be used to determine the overall storage space on your Chromebook. After installation, scroll down to see the section for external storage. Your Chrome OS device’s total storage capacity is indicated there. Strangely, my Chromebook’s Cog app displays 59GB of total storage space while it actually has 64GB of internal storage. It can be due to the fact that the app hasn’t been updated since 2018.

Find Total and Remaining Storage Space on Chrome OS

These are the several methods you have to check your Chromebook’s storage capacity and free space. To find out how much storage space is still available on your Chrome OS device, I would advise you to use the system settings option. That’s all we have to say, though.
